21 FUN FACTS ABOUT ME

 

  1. I can say the U.S. Pledge of Allegiance in Latin.
  1. I’m the second-oldest of five children. I have 11 first cousins. I have 22 nieces and nephews.
  1. I’ve never been stung by a bee or a wasp.
  1. My favorite food is macaroni and cheese.
  1. My least favorite food is stinky cheese that smells like feet.
  1. I was eight years old when I wrote and illustrated my first book. It was called “Susan and the Snail,” and I still have it. I also wrote “The Handsome Guy” that year.
  1. I broke my femur (thigh bone) at age nine in a motorcycle accident. I was hospitalized in traction for six weeks, and then I was at home in a body cast for six weeks. Somehow I passed third grade.
  1. I lived in a hospital from the ages of 14 to 21. It’s a unique story but probably not as weird as you are imagining. If you’re intrigued, here’s a blog I wrote about it.
  1. I collected frogs when I was a child. But not the real kind.
  1. For a 6th grade talent show, I performed “Puff the Magic Dragon” in a duet with my friend, Amy James. We sang while playing our ukuleles.

  1. I’m not a superstitious person.
  1. I was bullied by a small pack of girls in the 7th grade. In the 8th grade, one of them apologized, and she became my friend.
  1. During college, I typed research papers to make extra money. My ad said, “You party while I type.” Corny, I know; but I got a lot of business!
  1. My first real job after college was as a newspaper reporter in Shreveport, Louisiana.
  1. I startle easily. If you walk up behind me, I usually jump, gasp, and scream.
  1. I drink Diet Coke every day. I wish I could kick the habit.
  1. I love to do laundry.
  1. My husband and I have never missed an episode of “Survivor.”
  2. In high school, I was named “Hardest Working Senior.”
